Skellig Island Tour 2023 – BOOKINGS OPEN
Tickets for the Skellig Island Tour 2023 are NOW OPEN! Skellig Michael Landing Tours are in high demand each year, so we advise booking your tickets in advance to avoid disappointment. The popularity of these tours soared in 2015 after the filming of Star Wars. Episode 7 – The Force Awakens was filmed on this island. They returned a year later to film Episode 8 – The Last Jedi leading to higher demand. 2020 saw the closure of the island to the public due to Covid-19. In 2021 the island reopened to visitors once again and toilet facilities were introduced on the island as a health and safety measure in line with Covid-19 restrictions. There are OPW guides present on the island throughout your visit and they will provide further information during your tour.
Skellig Season
There are a number of boat operators that facilitate a Skellig Michael Landing Tour on the island. OPW have introduced several measurements to limit the amount of people on the island per day. These measurements include a maximum of 12 people per boat and boat operators must hold a valid Skellig Michael Landing License to land on the island.
Skellig Michael usually opens to the public in mid-May and closes at the end of September. The boat tours run daily weather permitting and boat capacity is limited to a maximum of 12 people. Therefore it can sometimes be difficult to receive a ticket. Booking in advance is advised as this allows you to secure a ticket before the season kicks off.
