There is an abundance of family friendly activities to enjoy during your time in Kerry. The Skellig Coast offers a wide range of fun things to do with the kids. Below are some of our must do activities when staying in the area.

  • The Skellig Experience Visitor Centre

This is the perfect way to learn all about Skellig Michael while remaining on dry land. Whatever the weather you can experience the magic and mystery of Skellig Michael through our self-guided exhibition and Film Presentation.Skellig Experience

Our visitor centre is a fantastic family friendly attraction. The kids will be provided with a fun quiz at the entrance and can explore our exhibition to find all the answers with a small prize once completed.

We also have a Star Wars display in our exhibition so you can watch the cast and crew of Star Wars talk about their time filming on Skellig Michael. Our Skellig Michael Sea Cruise is an added option which allows you and your family to circle the islands by boats.

The cruise is 2.5 hours in duration and is suitable for all ages as you will remain on the boat at all times. Booking a boat tour with us means you will receive access to our Visitor Centre and Film Show at no extra cost!

  • Valentia Ice Cream Parlour

This is the perfect treat for the kiddies and adults too. Valentia Ice Cream is a family run business located on the beautiful Valentia Island. The Dalys are the only artisan Ice Cream producers in South Kerry and provide a wide variety of luxury ice-creams and sorbets. An added bonus is the Ice Cream Parlour offers both indoor and outdoor seating so you can sit and relax while enjoying your ice cream and the stunning views. There is a craft shop onsite which specialises in handmade local products. They also offer horse carriage tours to allow you the opportunity to explore the historical landmarks and beautiful scenery surrounding Knightstown in a unique way.

  • Valentia Sea Sports

Located in Knightstown, Valentia Sea Sports provides a wide variety of water-based activities including kayaking, canoeing, paddle boarding and more. This is the perfect way to experience fun and adventure during your time on the island. They also provide a range of different camps for different age categories. This is the perfect way to enjoy some fun and adventure with the family!

  • Ballinskelligs Beach

Family Friendly KerryWhy not enjoy a relaxing walk along the idyllic sandy beach lying in Ballinskelligs Bay which is home to the McCarthy Mór Castle used to guard against pirates in the 15th and 16th century.

The beach boats the perfect location for kayaking, boogy boarding, canoeing or the kiddies can build some sandcastles instead.

The site is the first Dark Sky Location in the whole of Ireland. Café Cois Trá is located at the beach entrance and is perfect to pick up come snacks or drinks. Perhaps you would prefer to bring your own picnic to enjoy along on the beautiful beach.

On your return why not pop in to the Skellig Chocolate Factory for some tasty treats.

  • Tetrapod Trackway

Located on Valentia Island the Tetrapod Trackway is the most extensive of the four Devonian Trackways in the world. They are between 350 million and 370 million years old. The trackway is free and is open year round but caution should be taken on the rocks in case slippery.
